Zindagi India is holding a Meet & Greet at St Catherine's College, in the PDR room. We will be tempting you to try the traditional North Indian chickpea dish "channa masala" and end the evening with the Bollywood cult classic "SHOLAY" starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra amongst others.

Presentation Zindagi India

Come and hear about what Zindagi has been up to over the past year, and where the generous donations from Oxford University's colleges have been spent.

Trinity Term 2005

Filmscreening: Swades

When: Sunday 3^rd Week, 7pm
Where: Oriel College
Cost: £2 - All proceeds to Charity

Set in modern day India, Swades is a film that tackles the issues that development throws up on a grass root level. It is to this India, which is colorful, heterogeneous and complex that Mohan Bhargava (Shah Rukh Khan), a bright young scientist working as a project manager in NASA, returns to on a quest to find his childhood nanny. The film uses the contrast between the highly developed world of NASA, which has been at the forefront of advances in space research, and this world back home in India, which is at the crossroads of development. Mohan's simple quest becomes the journey that every one of us goes through in search of that metaphysical and elusive place called "home".

Bhangra Night

When: Friday 6^th Week, 7pm
Where: St Hilda's College
Cost: £5

Come and dance the night away to bhangra beats at St HIldas, entry just £3, and tasty panjabi snacks provided. All proceeds to Zindagi-India.

Summer Eights

When: Saturday, 5^th week, 12:00 onwards
Where: St Hughs Boathouse
Entrance: Prices start from just 50 pence!

Come and watch the rowing and treat yourself to homebaked chocolate cookies, only 50p each!!

Filmscreening: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

When: Thursday, 4^th week, 7pm
Where: Oriel College
Entrance: £2 - All proceeds to Charity

A romantic anecdote of second generation Indians living in England, who are strongly attached to the traditional values of Indian (Punju) culture. The fun-n-frolic of the lovers (Raj and Simran) in Europe is followed by Raj's struggle to win over the hearts of every member of Simran's family so that they allow him to marry her.

Indian Café Culture
"the cheapest café in town!"

When: Tuesday 3^rd Week
Where: Old Refectory, Wadham College
Cost: £3.50 min

Ladies and Gentlemen, Café Culture is BACK, and this time we're bringing you the exotic delights of INDIA! Step into a bustling Delhi Chai House; sip your Masala tea, whilst we entertain you with live traditional music and classical dancers.
There will be plenty of Indian culinary delights (provided by Oxford's generous Indian restaurants). The village henna tattooists, naturally, will be there, so come along and enjoy yourself in the name of charity - you'll feel so immersed, you'll wonder where the carpet-hagglers are!

All proceeds to charity - Zindagi (www.zindagi.org) & Vidya (www.vidya.org.uk), building schools and providing education for street, slum and tribal children in India.

Trinity Term 2004

Meet, Greet and Eat

When: Tuesday, 2^nd week, 7pm
Where: Massey Room, Balliol College
Entrance: Free

Come along to hear more about our new project (since the primary school is now built) which is a tailoring project being held in the school. This will help mothers to produce goods that can be sold and thus help reduce their cash expenditure, which is a pressing problem. There will also be a presentation about the existing primary school project, its construction and on-going maintenance. We are then hoping to continue the evening with dinner at a local Indian restaurant.
So come along, learn more about Zindagi and how you can get involved, share any fundraising ideas you may have with us and delight in some Indian cuisine. If you would like to join is for dinner, please email oxford.events@zindagi.org.

Cultural Evening

When: Sunday, 4^th week, 7:30pm
Where: Moser Theatre, Wadham College
Entrance: Free

Come join us for an International Cultural Evening with performances such as Brazilian Capoeira martial arts, Bollywood dancing, classical Indian singing, Greek dances, salsa performance, and a Russian poetry reading! There will be cheap Russian, Pakistani, Japanese, Thai and Caribbean snacks and food on sale. Zindagi India will also be selling Indian snacks and food, the proceeds of which will go to the charity.

A hilarious and heart warming story of a local goon's journey into the medical world - a place he neither belongs to nor believes in. It is a classic story of a right man in the wrong place. (With subtitles in English)

Join us at the Oxford Summer Eights Boatraces. We will be selling a variety of homemade cupcakes and cookies as well as the Indian snack, bhel. You will have to get there early as it is sure to be a sell out! As always, proceeds will be going to the charity.

Filmscreening: Lagaan

When: Tuesday, 3^rd week, 8pm
Where: Harris Lecture Theatre, Oriel College

'Lagaan' which literally means 'Tax' (in the form of grains) is a story of ordinary people set in a small village 'Champaner' in Central India during the British rule in 1893. The tale narrates the determination of the villagers to fight against injustice and opposition.

Charity Bhangra Night

When: Saturday, 5^th week, 8pm
Where: Wadham JCR
Entrance: £5

Come and enjoy an evening of a special type of Indian dancing that is taking the country by storm - Bhangra! Beats from the dhol, as well as Bollywood, bhangra and hip-hop from the DJ, and free Indian snacks to give you the energy to keep you going through to the last bhangra beat - an incredible evening for only £5! Plus, it's all in aid of charity. How can you resist?

Zindagi-India and HUM, the Oxford Hindu Society, invite you to an evening dedicated to rhythm: BHANGRA NIGHT Professional Dhol Player and DJ: Funki Dholi and DJ Krash Bhangra, R&B and Bollywood from Team GWI, free Indian snacks.

Charity Filmscreening

When: Thursday, 3^rd week
Where: St John's film room
Entrance: £3

'Salaam Bombay' - a film produced and directed by Mira Nair and starring Shafiq Syed in the lead role will be screened in St John's College. It relates, in an almost documentary style, the harsh lives of street children in Bombay (Mumbai) India.

Zindagi-Fundraising Party

When: Wednesday, 8^th week
Where: Green College Bar
Entrance: £4

A party featuring classical Indian music will be held in Green College Bar. A light buffet of Indian food and libations will be served. Popular Indian music will follow. All profits will go to Zindagi-India.
